The idea for Not Your Mother's Book Club came up during a wine dinner at the Crane & Pelican in early 2018 while we were reminiscing on our first annual Emmy's party. After months of planning and researching podcasting equipment, we decided to take a leap of faith and officially launch our podcast in August 2019. The rest, as they say, is history!
Our loyal friends and family helped us debut at #154 on the iTunes "TV & Film" charts and have spread the word to their friends and family to grow our club to what it is today.
Where did NYM Book Club get its name?
We get asked this a lot! What does NYM Book Club mean? As you know, when you get older, a lot of your friends move and you aren't as close geographically as you once were. In an effort to stay close, Emily would FaceTime with her friends and they would watch their favorite shows and drink wine together - they called it "Book Club." The podcast is our version of a book club, getting together and talking about TV, movies, entertainment, celebrities, what's trending, and what's going on in our lives while enjoying a glass (or bottle, let's be serious) of wine - which is a far cry from the book evaluations your mom used to go it! And so, Not Your Mother's Book Club was born.
Who are Emily & Olivia?
Many of our listeners only know one of us - but you'll soon feel like we've all known each other for years!
Emily, from Ottawa, IL originally, moved to the Quad Cities (where we currently reside) to attend St. Ambrose in Davenport, IA. During her first night on campus, she met her now-husband (Eric) and brother-in-law (Danny) at a basement keg party and they've been together ever since. Eric & Emily have two girls, Isla (5) and Blake (2), in addition to two cats Ozzie & Cupcake. Emily is a stay-at-home supermom and is always finding new ways to explore the Quad Cities with her family. Her favorite channel is Bravo and loves indulging in all of the drama from the Real Housewives franchise, Below Deck, Summer House, etc. Emily is most likely to be found lounging beach side, enjoying a Josh rosé, Truly Hard Seltzer or her favorite IPA with her family.
Olivia, from Madison, WI, originally, moved to the Quad Cities in August of 2014 after taking a radio job as a morning show host. Nine months later during a Saturday night at Kilkenny's, she met Danny (Emily's brother-in-law) and a week later they went on their first date and have been together since. The two of them live together and are frequently chasing after the newest beer releases from some of their favorite Midwest breweries! During the week, Olivia can be found enjoying her favorite "trashy tv" shows, including The Bachelor franchise, Teen Mom, Ex on the Beach, etc. or any recent true crime release on Netflix.
Emily & Olivia knew very quickly that they were going to be fast friends, bonding over their love of spirits, reality TV and spicy foods. Since meeting, they've traveled to St. Louis, MO, Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, Iowa City, IA, Cedar Lake, IN Tybee Island, GA, Bradenton Beach, FL, and can't wait to add more cities in the coming years!
