From a very early age, I've (Olivia) had a draw to spicy foods, specifically buffalo wings (see my artwork below for reference). They're actually one of my favorite things about fall - sitting down, watching a football game with a cold beer and wings - I mean does it get any better?
I'd like to consider myself a wing connoisseur of sorts, as there was a time where when we went out to eat that's all I would order. Then, in an effort to save money (and let's be serious, calories) I began playing around with making them myself. It started with the standard frozen Tyson wings, which didn't provide me with the saucy experience I knew and loved.
After a few different pins and some trial and errors in the kitchen, I finally found a super simple recipe to get restaurant quality wings at home!
WING RECIPE
Serving size: 12 wings
What you'll need
12 chicken wingettes and drummies (fresh or frozen, I use frozen from Costco)
1/2 cup of your favorite wing sauce (I use Frank's Hot Buffalo)
Paper towels
Aluminum foil
Baking sheet
Cooking spray
Basting brush
Optional
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
If you're using frozen wings, place 12 wings into a Ziplock bag and thaw in an empty sink at room temperature for around four hours. Once wings are thawed, lay them out on paper towels, placing additional paper towels on top to soak up moisture (this will help to make them crispier).
Place aluminum foil on a baking sheet and spray with cooking spray. Place wings on the coated aluminum foil and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
Measure buffalo sauce, adding in cayenne pepper, garlic powder and salt (optional). I will often do 1/4 cup of Frank's Hot Buffalo and 1/4 cup of Hy-Vee's Hickory House Parmesan Alarm wing sauce, diving it evenly between the 12 wings.
Remove wings from oven, and flip wings. Bake for an additional 25 minutes at 400 degrees.
Remove wings from the oven and flip, adding to new, greased sheet of aluminum foil. Turn oven to broil on high.
Using a basting brush, apply sauce to the side of the wings facing up. Broil in oven for 2-3 minutes.
Remove wings, flip, and apply the rest of the sauce. Add to the oven and broil for an additional 2-3 minutes.
Use remaining wing sauce to coat before serving!
